Moving an announcement here just for reference. Originally posted 7/12/03.
Recently there has been some controversy regarding closed threads, "censorship" and other things. We need to take a moment to address them before anything else gets out of hand.
First and foremost, Paw-Talk is here to allow animal lovers to share information about animals. It's a friendly, fun atmosphere to do so, be you a newbie or an expert.
Friendly, informational, and fun are the key things we try to preserve. Forums tend to get out of hand when people have conflicting opinions and folks can get downright nasty. We know many members have left other forums in the past for this reason and we don't want Paw-Talk to be like that.
Every member is entitled to an opinion and the freedom to express it. It's how you express it that will determine if it's acceptable. There are many controversial topics discussed on our forum and we need to respect every member. Whatever they may think is indeed their opinion and, just like you, they are entitled to think it. You don't have to like it and you're allowed to disagree. But you must do it with tact.
Rudeness and personal attacks will result in the thread being closed or posts being removed. (You will always be notified if we remove your post and it isn't a common practice.)
The following is a good format to follow when disagreeing with another member.
- Member #1: I don't like blue circles. They're ugly and boring.
- Member #2: I do like blue circles. I think the blue is radiant and bright and it's a continuous shape so it isn't boring.
- Member #1: I think you're wrong. I still don't like blue circles.
- Member #2: That's great, I still like them. This is another reason I like them ..... (and so on.)
As you can see, things need to be kept civil. You can give reasons for your opinion, and you can offer facts to support it. But you cannot antagonize another member because his/her opinion is different. We all have tempers, we all have subjects we're passionate about, and most of all, we all have opinions we're going to share. Doing it in a civil manner will allow a thread to continue without hurt feelings or closed threads.
Our goal is not to censor you, it's not to create a false sense of happiness amongst all members. It's to keep a decent forum decent, and allow members to share their opinions and information about their pets.
If you have a problem or a question, feel free to PM Jade at any time. (My inbox is full enough, but what's one more?
) We do our best to try to keep Paw-Talk a fun place to be and share about your animals, but we need your help.
