As a team we need to make mention of some things for members who post and are considering suicide.
We care about you as members, whether you are a newbie or someone who has been around for years. We're always happy to listen if you need to vent or just need a shoulder to lean on. However, we are not trained/licensed counselors or therapists and should not be relied upon in the event of a crisis. We cannot offer the help that a member needs and we cannot be responsible for the outcome of a suicide situation.
Unfortunately, we as a community need to have a non-involvement policy aside from directing members to suicide trained personnel and/or hotlines. Sadly, web hosts have been sued by families of suicide victims for trying to help and not being successful. Obviously, we want our valued members to get the help that they need from a professional so that they can get better, not just the shoulders of other members.
Hotlines within all 50 states in the US can be viewed here:
International hotlines can be viewed here:
To ensure this policy is enforced, any post regarding suicide as a personal matter (i.e. not a general discussion) will be closed and any member will be directed to the hotlines listed above or their local health professionals.
Please understand, this is for the well being of all our members and is not meant to deter a member from leaning on the friendships within the community for support. We do care about each and every one of you, no matter the situation. We just feel professionals are the ones who need to handle a matter so serious. Any member wanting to offer support is welcome to do so off the forum and of their own accord, with the understanding that the subject of suicide is best left to a trained professional and Paw-Talk does not endorse personal involvement.
