Can someone plz tell me the difference?

Between male and female cockatiels? I haven't found any information that is really clear on the topic.

There is a cockatiel at the humane society that I'm going to look at tomorrow. It's a yellow and white tiel and, well...let's just say that the humane society has been wrong before!

Any info is greatly apprectiated!

I am by no means a bird expert... but I don't believe there is no deffinate way to tell male from female unless you do a gene test... but characteristics wise: males are usually brighter in color & if you look closely at the cheek patches the brighter more prominant orange are almost always males, if it is a duller color & not as bright & bold it is most likely female. (trick I learned while breeding) I don't know that this always holds true though?

Fsty's description is usually true but it sounds like the tiel may be a Lutino and then you pretty much have to wait for it to lay eggs or have it DNA tested to be sure.

Thanks. He's 7 years old, so I'm sure the previous owners would've seen an egg by now if he were a she. BUT I know people can sometimes be totally clueless too, lol!
