Cherries

I was just wondering, can parakeets have cherries, my book on them doesn't say anything about them. Thanks!

They can have cherries but it's not recommended that you allow them to have the seeds... the same would apply with cherries that applies to apples. The seeds, if digested, can ultimately release cyanide. I've ate plenty myself but apparently not enough to cause a problem LOL. Nevertheless, I avoid allowing my birds to have the seeds of those types of fruits

Cherries are fine for birds (most love 'em!) but don't give 'em the seeds which can contain toxins.

Thanks guys! I cut the cherries up into little pieces, without seeds, and put them in a bowl. Looks like it'll be a while before my birds try them though.
