Getting budgies to accept new food

It seems that I've finally worked out how to get Beekle to try new food. The answer seems to be to place it away from his seed. This does also mean putting it near the mirror in his cage which might be a factor.

For the past few weeks I've been trying to get him to eat baby corn but he's been ignoring them. On Saturday I decided to put it at the other end of his cage near his mirror and he devastated it within an hour. At one point he was standing on the perch on one foot, the other was grabbing his mirror (it hangs from the roof of his cage) and he was alternating between pecking the mirror and nibbling the corn.

I then decided to try brocoli. Now up 'till then he has been seen doing something with his beak in the brocoli but there was never any evidence that he was eating it.

Well within an hour of putting the brocoli where the corn was it had turned into a half eaten soggy mess.

The only problem was that he ate it so fast there was a distinct smell of brocoli in the air (I don't mind that - i eat it raw myself) but later on when playing with him I noticed he had a bad case of brocoli breath.

Guess it's trime to try carrots

Try parsley if you haven't already. Parsley breath stinks!
