Hey new members!

We've got some new members that have birdies. (Mystic Cat & Zion - off the top of my head) I would love to hear about your fids and see pictures of them!

Please introduce your fids (feathered kids) to us!

Can I share a picture of my mother's cockatiel? His name is Pickles. She just started breeding again and hopefully we will have a clutch very soon. This picture isn't so great, sorry......it was taken with a picture phone. But I am visiting my mother in a few weeks and will get better pics of the tiels when I visit.

Neat! We have another member that is trying to breed 'tiels too.

Did you grow up with birds around?

I look forward to pictures after your visit!

I have always had birds. My mother and I used to raise tiels and shared our home with 200 of them at one time. Raising tiels is a lot of work, but it's very fun and rewarding as well. I love being able to play with the babies and hand feed them etc. So if anyone ever needs help with a breeding question please ask. I have years of experience doing this.

We have had more than just tiels though, but tiels were the most special to us. I have had the pleasure of being owned by Bourkes Parakeets (which I will begin breeding this year), budgies, grey cheeked parakeets, parrotletts, ravens, crows and more! I don't have any experience with larger parrot species, but look forward to the day where I feel stable enough to own a Rose Breasted Cockatoo...my dream bird!

At this time my mom only has the one pair, but in a few days I am bringing home a cinnamon pearl, a white face and a latino to use in future breedings.

I fell in love with one a while back. She was SO beautiful and cuddly (but priced ridiculously...funny that they are a pest to Australian farmers but can sell for $3000 here). But since I have a large macaw, I won't be getting any cockatoos (because of the dust).

My dream bird is Hyacinth.

Hyacinth, oooh I love them! I also like Eclectus too!

I just want to make it clear, as it may sound strange that we had 200 birds. But we were not mass beeders, and almost always kept each baby. We hardly sold babies, because they were all considered our pets. Our oldest tiel Pancha was about 30 when she died. She was a rescue and just fantastic! She had been flying around our neighborhood when our neighbor caught her. She was blind in one eye, and we suspect she flew into something like a brach and poked it. The eye was still there, just not usable. Our neighbor had her for about ten years, and she was already an older birdy then, and then she came to us and we kept her til she died. We had her about 10 more years after that.

Even though she never bred she would lay eggs under the couch. That was her "nest" LOL. She would guard it with her life. She would come out with his wings out hissing, and it was the cutest thing. She was the sweetest bird and before I knew this was wrong, she would clean our teeth for us and take food from our mouths. She was just an overall sweet bird. She of course, was my favorite.

We had other rescue tiels as well. One Latino we got we found in an avocado tree, just sitting there. So we took her home. :p

Pretty.

That's a Vosmaeri Eclectus. The yellow on the tail is the give away.

I just posted a thread with pictures of Polly and Stella. Polly is a male normal gray, and stella is a female lutino.

They are fun little birds. Polly likes to be handled more than Stella does.

I have only handraised one baby cockatiel. He was a great little bird! I taught him tricks that would make every one laugh. He lived for over a year. We had a bad hail storm that broke out windows and left a lot of damage to the house. He got so frightened he slamed himself against the cage. the next morning he died. His name was tweety. He was yellow like his mom. Polly and Stella lived. But baby Tweety died.
