Okay think about this....
The Migratory Bird Treaty Act is a federal law that protects virtually all native species of birds in North America.
It makes it illegal for people to "take" migratory birds, their eggs, feathers or nests. Take is defined in the MBTA to include by any means or in any manner, any attempt at hunting, pursuing, wounding, killing, possessing or transporting any migratory bird, nest, egg, or part thereof.
The picture you posted is of a English House Sparrow. It's an introduced species that isn't covered under the MBTA in the US. They are a pest, and many biologists would say the real crime in what you did was releasing it instead of euthanizing it. They are frequent vectors for diseases like conjunctivitis, Salmonella and parasites like ticks and mites. (Hope you washed your hands...)
If it had been a native species though...
Posting a picture of yourself on the internet, breaking a federal law is the kind of thing that gets you a television spot on World's Dumbest Criminals.
