Need ferret help

We got swiper and boo 2 1/2 weeks ago they were owner turn ins at a pet store. The manager "believes they are the two that were brought in togeather." Well Boo is doing great, but Swiper is really scaring me right now. She is not active and is just laying in our arms. We are trying tofeed her that duck soup and she wont open her mouth for it. I also tried syringe feeding her water and she is fighting me on it. Any ideas? Her stomic doesnt seem thin but her little shoulder area between her front paws is very prominant. She is not as social as Boo so we have been giving her more space and letting her get more used to the new home before messing with her to much. Now I am just worried I am calling the vet for an appointment first thing when they open, Any ideas on what to do between now and then?

any idea how old she may be?

She sounds dehydrated, although there could be other underlying problems as well. Will she walk around at all?? Is she shivering? The dropper is a good idea. Keep trying to give her small amounts at a time near the side of her mouth. A visit to the vet is absolutely in order as she likely needs subcutinous fluids administered. Her blood pressure may be low too... I think what you are doing with the duck soup is good- not all ferrets take to it right away. Another thing you can try is get a jar of mashed baby food - like bananas, peaches or squash & see if she will lick it off your finger.

Hang in there... I'll be thinking about you & praying for a possitive outcome.
Please keep me updated!

Try calling around and see if you can find an ER vet, too. She really should be seen tonight if at all possible if she's just lying there like that.

Best of luck with her.

Stephanie

Thank you both for the wonderful advice. About 20 minutes after I posted, we lost her. I was calling trying to find a vet to take her, unfortunitly the only vet that does emergancys in Joplin is my vet but the woman who does exotics was out of town at a conferance! She called me at 7am this morning.
