Betta with Dropsy

Hello all,

I have had my male betta for about 15months now. About a month ago, he started to get swollen. I went to the pet store and they gave me Marycyn II to use. So I did, and it did not help. And so I tried another dose as the directions advised, if necessary. He has not eaten in weeks. I don't understand what happend. I took good care of him and his tank. He is so swollen and is pine coned. I know he wont make it, I just absolutely hate seeing him suffer this way. Sometimes, it's sad to say, but I just wish I would find him dead so that he wouldn't have to go through this anymore.

I'm so sorry . The last thing you could try is an epsom salt bath. I've seen it help pineconing fish.

I did a search and found a small article with info: The Betta Obsession

Of course you can ask me any questions, too.

If after a couple baths he doesn't get better and seems to be suffering you may want to consider euthanasia. I know it's hard to think about but sometimes it's the kindest thing to do.

Once again, I'm sorry.

Thank you for your suggestion of the epsom salt bath. I tried that on Friday night, but unfortunately, he died through the night into the morning. I found him there Saturday morning. But at least he's not suffering anymore.

I'm so sorry for your loss . It's very difficult to save a fish that's started to pinecone.
