betta wont eat and stays in corner

My bf got me a Betta on Saturday from Petco. Since I've had him he wont and mostly stays in the corner on the tank. He will swim only if i can encourage him too. I have tried bettamin flakes and betta bio gold and he wont eat. Right now the PH is low (I am going to get the stuff later today) could the ph being low make him not swim or eat?

Sorry that your having trouble with your Betta.

Maybe give him some more time to adjust to his new home, sometimes it takes a while. What are you keeping him in? Have you had a Betta before?

bettas....

Have you tried dried blood worms? My betta will not eat anything other than the blood worms....Very picky fishy...I tried flakes and pellets but he just looks at me as if to say "you gotta be kidding...Im to good for that junk". Have noticed that betta's like small corners and cramped areas....think that they feel safe. Good luck

This is what my little Sapphire looks like. I put his thermometer in his corner to encourage to not stay there all the time. He has been moving around a bit more but still not eating.

Does he physically look ok?

He needs a larger aquarium, one that can be safely heated (since temperature is another issue).

I wouldn't go any smaller than a 2-gallon and would highly recommend something larger. They sell small aquarium heaters made for desktop tanks so pick one of those up. The temperature should be in at least the mid-70's...around 78 being ideal.

Most new bettas take a while to eat but the reason he isn't swimming is most likely because the tank is small and the water is too cold. In such a small tank I'm sure there have been ammonia spikes as well.

Don't mess with the pH as that will only stress him out more. Instead, get a bigger aquarium and a heater .

Good luck!
