Eggs!

Last night I noticed my pink convict was acting really aggressive towards the other two...I have three convict cichlids. She was protecting a certain cave alot and even flaring at her reflection and me! When I inspected,I noticed a bunch of eggs in the cave!

It was pretty exciting. The thing is I THOUGHT I had 3 females! A few days ago,my pink and one of the blacks were constantly together and hanging out alot. And I noticed they were scoping out the caves. But I didn't think much of it.

But I guess there is a male there!

Unless she just layed unfertilized eggs.

Congrats! I am going to sound like an idiot now because I have only ever had 1 type of fish preganant, but are chichlids the only type of fish to lay eggs or are there others? Its just that ive never came across fish eggs before

Most fish lay eggs, although there are some that give live birth (mollies, guppies, platies, sword tails, etc.).

usually they will do that if they die or are not fertilized. did they turn white before she ate them?
otherwise, the parents will valiantly defend their young (in most cases with Cichlids).

It turns out I had all females (only have 2 left now) and the one just laid eggs and there was no male to fertilize them,so she ate them.
