fish looks bruised

We have fish at work. Today we noticed that the one little white fish (no idea what he is) looks bruised. No one noticed the other fish picking on him but since no one is there on the weekends we don't know what happened.
Now we did loose power on Wednesday but I went over and put in a battery powered bubbler for them. They seemed absolutely fine. He definitely was not this way on Friday.
Any ideas? We really feel badly for him.

When you say bruised do you mean black marks?

No the poor little thing looks more red than black. He is still alive this morning. He is swimming but it seems like he is constantly swimming downward. We feel so badly for him.
I tried to look it up on the internet - but they kept talking about how not to bruise a fish you are going to cook - we have no plans on cooking him!

mmm no idea then. I've never had that happen to any of my fish...

Let's see I saw other things about it on other webs though:

http://www.military.com/Resources/Re...ets_Ground.htm

Hope it can help. Also saw in another web that some fish can fight causing bruises, so maybe he did get in a fight.

Thanks. I am going to bring in aquarium salt and melafix from home. I figure it can't hurt to try those. Poor little guy was being picked on by the fish that is usually his friend. Luckily, he is a smart little guy and he went into a ornament to hide.
Oh and I think he is a molly fish - if that helps!

Are the scales on the marking raised? I would do a water change first of all since you don't want it to get infected (if it is an injury which is what it sounds like).

The water was just changed. I did check levels of ammonia today = it was non existent. I checked the nitrites and they were fine.
I added salt and melafix like you have told me to do in the past. We really think his best friend was picking on him. I don't understand - they have to be in that tank together for about a year. Before coming to work they lived together in someone elses tank. They were best friends and always swam together. His friend was a dannio (sp?). The dannio was caught today pushing into him and appeared to be nipping at him as well. We put the dannio in another tank in the office. The little mollie fish is hanging in there. He looked better today.
Any other suggestions to help him heal?

Is it the only danio in the tank? I've noticed that single danios can be more nippy.

I don't have any more suggestions besides just keep the water clean. He should be fine .

Yes, he is the only only Danio in the tank (or he was in that tank). It just seems odd that all of a sudden he started with the poor Mollie.
Thanks. We will keep the tank clean and keep adding Melafix.

Thanks for all your help! He is doing much better now. Yesterday he only had one little spot of red left. He is eating again - just a little bit but still better than not at all!
