Gourami developing black spot on sides of body

We have a gourami fish at work that is developing black spots on it's sides. The scales are turning black - it's nothing growing on it. There is a round black spot on one side with a area of scales around the spot that is a lighter blackish color. The other side has no round spot but it has the area of lighter blackish color - neither side of the lighter area has a specific shape.
Also the bottom fin has a black edging - which appears normal - no fraying or anything.

Should we be worried about the blackish colored area?

What kind of gourami is it? And would it be possible to get a picture?

Hopefully it's nothing serious, though .

It's a pink kissing gourami. I will bring my camera in tomorrow so I can take her picture and post it. Unfortunately, we don't have one in the office at this time. We usually do!

I am hoping this works

and

Her eyes appear cloudy in the pictures but they are not. Note that there also seems to be a little red along the end of her body and the beginning of her tail. I am not sure if that is because she is a pink gourami and it's normal coloring or not.

She seems fine all in all.

It might be some sort of parasitic fluke...does that tank contain snails, by any chance?

It reminds me of a parasite that goes through a life cycle where they infect snails and then eventually switch to a fish host. If that's what it is, getting rid of the snails should solve your problem.

No snails are in that tank. I will double and triple check that there aren't any but I am 99.9% sure there isn't. It doesn't have any live plants and no fish have been added for some time.

Then I think the best thing to do for now is to just leave it how it is and keep a close eye on the fish. If she starts showing any other symptoms, post here asap.

Good luck, hopefully it's nothing .

Thank you.
I talked with someone and they reminded me that one of the fishes in the tank was from another tank in the office that did have snails in it. But he looks just fine and it was ages ago that he was moved to the back tank.
I am not as concerned with the spot as others in my office are. I was more concerned that where his tail meets his body looks pink - but he could have always been that way. I hadn't paid that much attention to them. I like the bumble fishes in the owners office and the silver dollar in the front tank the best. That silver dollar fish has been there for years and years.

Thanks so much for all your help and I will let you know if anything changes.
