Unhappy Is it just me that have a problem with this? >_<*

To me,this just seems wrong.

Quote:
A restaurant in Japan has a goldfish tank in the deep fryer.

Because oil floats on water, despite the massive heat (163 degrees Celsius) the goldfish simply stay away from the surface and all is well. They eat the crumbs of croquettes and other fried foods that fall to the bottom, and can live in there for 5-10 years** as they happily clean away, ignorant to the fact that certain death awaits any potential escapees.
Fried goldfish - From the frying pan to the aquarium... - on Bore Me

To me,it sounds a bit..inhumane?
Also if they are just eating what falls from the deep fryer...
that is sorta neglect isn't it?
I don't think they have filtration or anything >_<

Oh,I should mention..it is in Japanese,the video...
Japanese I <3 though can't understand much (want to learn Japanese!!),
can someone let me know if i'm over-thinking,the fact they live like that,Idk what to think..

I don't like the look of that at all.The goldfish look fat and healthy, but seriously I agree that cannot be good.I didn't see a filter or anything either.

Yeah that's what I was going to say - I don't see a filter or air stone or anything...and if theres hot oil at the top of the tank how do they get air?

Other sites have provided translations - the fish were put in there as a demonstration, showing the water in the bottom of the fryer, which is the point of functionality of the fryer; food falls down into the water instead of staying in the oil and burning. The point isn't actually to have an aquarium/fryer, despite the gimmick.

Note the two astericks by the 5-10 years...there's surely some disclaimer somewhere explaining it, but it's probably in japanese.

I didn't find written translations, I found websites SAYING that's what the translation were, if that makes sense. Here's an example. All I did was google "fryer aquarium" and you get a bunch of stuff; you can scroll through forums with folks posting as well. I didn't read 'em all, by any means. It seems they just want to prove the point that it was water and not a different density oil; fish obviously couldn't breathe in oil. Not saying it's a great idea, by any means.
