Your betta is very handsome . And great job in keeping him in a decent-sized aquarium!!

Yeah, it's sad . What I hate more, though, are the little vases petstores sell saying they are perfect for bettas .

or those "betta" setups...that are like half a gal and they say that they dont need more room, like they are some exception and dont need the space...yet they are intelligent and have personality..and it makes me sad to see that, who decided they they "thrive" on practically no space...

It's because people think they live in little puddles for some reason . Rice paddies are shallow, yes, but that's compared to lakes! Rice paddies are still going to be deeper then the average aquarium...

I heard its because in their natural habitat when the lakes dry up they live in small puddles and do fine. But.. that doesnt mean they LIKE living like that.. they just survive in them. So its still no excuse. Im trying to find a place in my room for my 10 gal for my betta, he is in a smaller "tall" tank at the moment, but I would never keep him in the "betta bowls" they sell at the store, its cruel!

--love the set up by the way! Wish my betta was lucky enough to have that!

Yeah, but they are only living in puddles for a short amount of time...not their whole life . I wish more people would research first.

You'd think that petstores would want to sell larger, more expensive tanks anyways. But I guess not.

Oh well.

THAT is true! I have never understood why petstores sell the smallest cages.

at a old pet store in anchorage they tried to sell this (practically hamster) cage for a chinchilla once. After they left the new owners, I went up to them and told them the facts, and they didnt buy the animal.

In a way I guess they are just trying to sell the animal, and know that most people buy off instinct and wont spend $200 on a nice cage or whatnot... I dont know.

But in the long run, if they sold bigger cages all around you would think they would make more money..

its sad to think of how many animals are kept in poor cages because the owners were told by the pet stores it was okay. =(

actually i dont have a filter..i do 90% water changes every two weeks or at least 50% water changes every week, i only have one betta with his fish buddy living in that 10gal bc i dont like to keep a lot of fish in a tank...filters just havent really worked well with me, i have two eclipse filters but im not using them though

on top of that i use a wire mesh cover on all my tanks

Nice setup. Your betta is really cute!

I see you have little snails. ha, I have a ton! I like them though, so I don't want to kill them. I know they could eventually take over the tank but I just think they are so cute, lol.
