Question

2 days ago, I was checking out my fish as usual
When i noticed one of my Tiger Barb fish has gotten really fat
its belly has kind of "swollen" up and around the belly are some weird mottled red marks..
I'm assuming its pregnant, and its not releasing the eggs becuase some other fish might eat it.
I have isolated it into a isolator...
Is it really pregnant, or is it some kind of disease???
and if it is.. does it need some other male to fertilize it or something???
If its a disease, what should i do???

I attatched an image..
Sorry for the bad quality...
I took it with my phone
and its kinda hard to see with the isolation net thingy

There isn't any way to get a clearer picture, right?

If it is pregnant then yeah, it would need a male to fertilize the eggs. Do you have more then one tiger barb? If you don't breed her she should just reabsorb the eggs .

Just in case it's bloat or something you might want to fast her for a day.

What concerns me are the red markings you mentioned. Can you describe them more?

Question

Thanks for replying...
and it maybe it is just a bloat...
i'll try not to feed it for a while..

The red marks kind of looks like stretch marks from the over loaded belly xD
So... if i don't put another tiger barb to fertilize the eggs, she would just release them out the buttocks???

two of my fish had similar kind of symptoms (suddenly fat and had marks)... but they died... Their stomach area was gone, and their eyes were gone too :O

---------
Oh by the way... one of my (don't know the name) small black fish who always looks pregnant and has something like an extra tail around the bottom, layed only about 4 eggs... is that normal??? because don't fish usually lay a LOT of eggs at one time??

If it is bloat then it shouldn't be a big deal. Fast her for a couple days and maybe try feeding her a small piece of cucumber or skinned and boiled pea.

Nah, she'd probably just re-absorb them. Suddenly she'd look thin again .

When did you have these fish? Have you considered the possibility of parasites? Maybe feed some anti-parasite food to be safe.

I can't help if I don't know the species. But your other fish could have eaten the other eggs...or she could've herself.

Oh.... I guess it must have been some weird infection becuase she just died today :'(
Thanks for the help though.. now i know what to do when a similar thing happens

Now that black fish seems like its losing some scales... Its showing silver marks on the side of its big belly...
I hope she doesn't die but absorb the eggs if she doesn't release them
