My poor fish :(

I think my beta, Ian, is dying. He's not eating very much and just lies at the bottom. I don't think he'll be around for much longer. I've had him almost two years, so he is old Is there anything I can do to make him better?

First thing you can do is get your water tested just to make sure it's not being caused by something simple like an ammonia spike.

Since he's weaker, he's probably going to have issues coming up for air. Lowering the tank's water level and having plenty of plants for him to rest on will help.

Other than that there isn't much you can do, he's probably just old .

How do I test the water? I have no experience with fish at all. I just know he is definitely not as energetic as he once was. I read that betas live for about three years and are about a year when they're at the pet store. That would make him about 3.5, so maybe it's just his time to go. I want to do everything I can to save him and make him comfortable. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your responses guys!

You can get test kits at the pet store to test the water.

I am on my way to a huge aquatic place to get all of the necessary things. I'm pretty sure he is old though But still, I want to do everything I can.

Bring in a water sample and the pet store should be able to test it for free .
