what's happening?

My aquarium has been working fine for the year that I have had it and I've changed the filter pads and everything before and there has never been a problem. But this time I changed them and for some reason the water started to go cloudy the day after I had put them in. Not dirt cloudy but a kind of white cloudiness and it just kept getting worse. So I took the filter out and cleaned it again (I also did a 20% water change) and put it back in to see if the cloudiness would go away but it's got worse! I'm very confused and don't know what's wrong. I put my fish in another tank for the time being but it's quite small and I would like to get this sorted as soon as possible. Thanks for the help.

I've sorted it thanks to some people on another forum. I was really stupid and changed both filter pads without thinking about the beneficial bacteria in them. Anyway the water is now looking good. And hopefully in a few days i'll be able to put my fish back in.
