What is my snake doing??!

My 2 year old ball python, Lucy, has been acting strangely today!

Here is a pic of her. She's been standing up like this for hours lol. She will turn her head and look around every once in a while. Its creepy lol!

She's in blue right now, if that matters. But like I said, we've had her for 2 yrs and she's been in blue many times before, and we've never seen her do this.

When was the last time you fed her? Is there any nosies around her enclosure?

Maybe she is starting to remove the shed.

She just ate a few days ago. She shouldn't be hungry. We had just woken up when I took this pic, actually I hadn't gotten out of bed yet. I was laying on the foot of the bed taking the pic lol. My hubby said he'd been watching her standing up like this for about 15 min before I woke up so there shouldnt have been any noises at all. And she's not shedding yet. This is why we're puzzled. We cannot think of a reason for her to stand up for such long periods of time.

None of our other snakes have done this. It looks creepy, like she senses something. She took a break for a few minutes, but just keeps going right back to it. I just know there are zombies hiding in our house. lol.

This pic was taken at 10am; it is now 1:22pm and she is still doing this!! *mysterious music plays*

That's so strange. I had a ball python before and never saw him do that.

Hmmm, ...cobra wannabe?

It's certainly not typical. I've always suspected that impending sheds make the animals uncomfortable, hence the short temper that some seem to have at that time. Handling, or anything touching the skin can range from an annoyance to actual pain. Perhaps it's just more comfortable for the snake to be in a position where there is as little physical contact as possible.

You might try giving her a large pan of water, or a bathtub, of lukewarm water and see if she might like a good soaking. Being suspended in the water might ease any discomfort from the shed by softening the skin.

Just guessing....

Bob

I was thinking the same thing

You put a baby in a crib with an apple and a rabbit. If it eats the rabbit and plays with the apple, I'll buy you a new car.

I agree give her a pan of water or a soak in the tub.

Thanks for all the replies! She had plenty of water the whole time (her bowl is big enough for her to get wet, and sometimes completely coil up in). I'm going to pass along to my Hubby your suggestion of putting her in the tub/sink. =)

She still hasn't shed yet, but she is no longer standing up. It pretty much lasted just that entire day. Totally weird. It was also the first day of the snow storm; I wonder if she was trying to look outside at all the snow?

Yeah is pretty weird.... Only time I have ever seen any kind of snake do that is a cobra giving warnings. Maybe give the vet a call as see what they say?
