I don't know of a cage manufacturer that I would reccommend. As the iguana grows it will need several cages. When it is small I would say that a 40 gal. would be fine. Then it will need one that is double or even tripple that in height. Then when it is an adult it will need an area that is almost the size of a small bathroom. Most owners either have cages built according to specifications that agree with their home and the iguana's needs.

All iguanas need a basking spot of 80-90 degrees. This may require the cage to have walls rather than mesh. Then they need lower branches to climb on and eat. Finally, they need a place to deficate (poop). You actually "potty train" an iguana to poop in a certain spot each day if you keep them on a regular schedule.

Here are some links she can check out.

you should at least have a 55 gallon tank, and it will outgrow it in approx. a year... http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/ that is one of the best sources of information, and make sure you give him/her a good diet, that's the hardest part of owning an iguana... http://www.iguanaden.com
both sites have a different diet- both will create a healthy iguana...
enjoy your dinosaur!

I'm sure she will, after high school! Her parents saw a real live grown one, and were like no way. She's so upset, but got a little gecko and an anole instead. She plans on getting one on her own one day though. Thanks for the info.

I ended up building two PVC cages like the ones on Iguana Den for the various rescues that come my way. Really though, maybe your friend should look into something like a bearded dragon? They make MUCH better pets in the long run, and are easier to care for but still very rewarding to keep.

Aren't they expensive? Her parents don't really have the money for those and the cages. On her own, she will probably get both.
