New to Geckos HELP PLEASE

i am new to the lizard world and have just splashed out on a leopard gecko. i have a very roomy viv with a heat mat half size of the tank for hot and cool. i have just put a doposit on the stuff and gecko.

i need some advice cos some people tell me to put kitchen roll on the bottom wheras some people plus rep shop tells me ill be fine with rep sand. HELP

note. the rep shop has sand in tanks

I don't own geckos, but I would steer away from rep sand unless you are feeding your gecko in a seperate area. Many reptiles can ingest sand when they go after crickets and then they can suffer from a condition called compaction. This is when sand gets stuck in their digestive tract.

I agree with Lizgirl. Sand is a really bad substrate for young causes impaction. Read that thread Lizgirl gave you for better ideas ^_^. I've seen special lizard bedding in pet stores...maybe that'd work better?

I've been confused about this too (I got my first gecko last night).

I discussed it with my sister who said "well where do lizards live?".

Good point, but I'm still confused, lol.
