Can dogs get depressed?

We got my dog, zap, from my aunt. He was one in a litter of two. After 3 years, my aunt (who kept the other pup) wanted to give her away so we took her in. I think zap my be depressed... he doesnt wag his tail or come when we call him anymore!

Yes, they can get depressed. So if I understand correctly, he was your aunt's dog and after three years she gave him away? Does she still have the other one? Try bribing him with treats. Just keep pampering him and he'll come around.

Try getting outside with the pup. Not just releasing in the back yard, but taking him out on the leash and working with him. Also, taking time and just playing with him should get him started. I always say time and effort is the key. Give him a little bit of extra attention during the day. Also perhaps bringing him for a reunion. Perhaps once a week if you're local.

Anyway I hope this helps!

GOOD LUCK!

Laura

Yep dogs can get depressed, give them lots of extra love and attention and hopfully they will get back to there old self soon.. if they stop eating or seem like there in pain, or if the depression doesnt seem to be going away at all, you might want to take them for a vet check to make sure nothing else is wrong.

Try to release the inner pup within if you know what I mean. Play with him, spoil him, pamper him beyond belief!
