chewing

Most dogs chew on things like raw hides and things of that nature if not our furniture. Our little shitzu, Casey, does not chew on anything other then food. As a consequence he has a bad plaque problem that he needs to be knocked out by the vet to take care of. Does anyone know of anything that we could get him to chew on that would help preventing these costly vet visits as they occur about once a year?

I use: http://www.dog.com/item/kong-dental-stick/ Kong dental sticks. I smear peanut butter on them and my dogs go crazy. You can also dip it in yogurt and freeze. They have special kong stuffing for it too.

My first dachshund had to have a lot of teeth pulled too. I think it may be a small dog thing.
