Question Hair loss

We recently got a new doggie named Zulu, four years old (black lab mix). She is amazingly obedient and we love her. When we got her, the owners told us she had had an accident where she bolted down the neighborhood and skimmed a parked boat. It sliced her stomach and she had to get stitches. It was only a spot of missing fur/a round scar the size of quarter. Now, a week and 1/2 later, more hair around the area is missing or is very thin and is very noticeable. We don't know how long ago it happened but she does lick it. Is it flees, is she licking it because it's dry, it is normal? Will the hair grow back later? Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Hi! When was the incident happened and does the stitches fully healed? If she licks it, probably it bothers here and if it may had an opening it could be susceptible to infection. I suggest to take her to the vet, she may wear the "cone of doom" but it will help her, hope it is not serious..

Hi TheRattieCorner and welcome to the forum. I'm definitely no expert here but I would guess if it is a fiarly new injury, then yes she may be licking it as it is probably still healing. Do you see any signs of infection around the injury site. Fleas are also a possibility. Have you checked her for fleas or flea dirt [little black specks in her fur]? I recently had an issue with my dog, where I didn't think she had fleas because I didn't see any, but she was still having problems with itching. Upon closer examination I did see flea dirt in her fur.
I guess the main question is how old of an injury is this? It may be a factor as far as the licking goes.
