Hutches for dogs?

Has anyone heard of a hutch for dogs? My neighbors have two beagles and they have what looks to me is a rabbit hutch. It's up off the ground. It has a wire bottom in one part and the back part is a house. But the guy that sold it to them said it was a beagle kennel.
I think it's odd.

I googled beagle hutch and it was hard to find anything on it. What I did find though said that it came from hunters thinking the hunting dog should never be in or near the house. I also saw that they will dig under a fence in a heartbeat and also destroy a wire crate, so that may be why it's done that way?
I think it is supposed to be a temporary run type thing, but I still wouldn't do it.

my uncle has a dog hutch for his hunting dog. But it's a big dog house built like 3 feet off the ground with a ramp into his kennel so he doesn't sit on the cold ground and get snow in it and such.. it might have a heater too so that doesn't really apply.

Yes,all the time.

Unfortunatly here in Newfoundland it is very common and thats why Beagle Paws exists. These hutches are quite cruel, because the wire bottoms tear their feet up and in most cases, these dogs are kept 24/7 in these hutches and only let out during hunting time.It is sad,but true.Beagles are the most abused and neglected dogs in Newfoundland.
