It's been a long time...

but I'm back and we're getting a puppy!!

Not the best pic, I know. She's a chocolate lab, biggest of the litter, and so sweet!!

The kids were in heaven when we went to see them on Friday - 8 puppies crawling all over!!

So, I need help making a list of all the things I need to do/buy in the next 3 weeks before we go back to get her.

Crate
Bedding
Leash/Collar
Toys
Food
Vet

Help me fill in the blanks? It's been, like, 8 years since I had a dog!!

Wife to an amazing man,
mom to three wonderful kids (9, 5.10, 4),
2 dogs, 3 hermit crabs and 2 bettas

OMG i hope you know what you're getting into lol i have a labrador and she just LOVES to eat..........EVERYTHING!!! You will need plenty of chew toys and preferrably big solid bones to stop pup chewing ya furniture!! My Maggie was a nightmare puppy she chewed everything she could get her paws on and more so! So the more toys the better lol plus be prepared for pup to be constantly bounding around lol Labs have bags and bags of energy and just need to run and play ALL the time!!! Good luck tho puppers is beautiful! Any names picked out yet? xx

awww what a cutie lol I was gonna say the same thing about chew toys, when my girls were puppies they chewed everything, we bought tons of shew toys and stuffies and all of that...we also got them their kongs when they were little, a life saver honestly, they still love their kongs above all else lol, your list looks pretty good to me,, don't forget the grooming things, gotta get them used to the brush nail trimmers and all of that at a young age

Also i find its a great idea to pull their ears about and stick your hand in their mouth etc from puppy through to adult so that if you ever need a vet trip they will be more than happy to have the vet look in their ears and mouth etc! Also......when you feed let her start eating and then whip the bowl away for a couple mins and then put it back........just teaches them from day one not to be protective over anything lol especially as Labradors are ALWAYS looking for food and will steal if they think they can get away with it lol xx

Yes, I know all the basics and what I'm getting myself into. I've had a weim/lab mix and a full weim before - so dh and I have experience.

Hellos

I went a bit overboard I think when I got my pup, but some things I got that you didn't list are chews, treats, food and water bowls, doggy shampoo and other grooming supplies (nailclippers, brush...), a tag for his collar, and I put together a first aid kit for him. I can't think of what else right now.

Good luck with your new puppy. She's cute. Any idea what you're going to name her yet?

You've mentioned you owned a puppy before and chew toys are important, I'd also suggest getting a product called Bitter Apple, or something similar. We used to keep the puppy from chewing on furniture, shoes, and assorted body parts. It has a really bad taste and it stopped the inappropriate chewing very quickly.

I'd suggest looking into local training classes they'll help with potty training, socialization and basic commands.

I've always wanted a chocolate lab. Congratulations and good luck with the puppy.
