Smile Poppy's story

Now that I've posted a picture of Fable in the cat section, I'm going to post one of my beautiful Jack Russell Terrier who's 3 years old!

This is Poppy who I wrote about in my introduction, she has a condition called Megaesophagus. Dogs with this condition have a bulge in their oesophagus and sometimes regurgitate food when they have just eaten. This never happened with Poppy so I assume this is a good thing! She would be sick about once a fortnight and eventually the vet found the bulge through her having an x-ray. The problem was that the barium used by the vet had gone down her windpipe because the bulge in her oesophagus wouldn't let it through, she then ended up with Aspiration Pneumonia.

The vet put her on steroids and antibiotics and she's been doing fine ever since with only the occasional cough when she's having a drink. Now she's had to come off those tablets, they aren't good for her in the long term.

All I hope is that we get back to how things were before the pneumonia...

I would love to hear if anyone else has an animal with a health condition, how do you cope with the worry?

Well Poppy's still doing fine, the vet said we may notice a difference in her 10 days after she finished her tablets so that should be some time next week. All I want is for the pneumonia not to come back, that's what I'm asking Santa for this year!

I my dog!
