Introducing Truffle

Truffle came to us as a quasi-rescue. A friend of ours is a mover. On one of his moves, the client had this turtle and didn't want to move him as well. She convinced him to take the turtle home. They really aren't pet people, so they called me knowing that I am a sucker for reps.

He came with his own aquarium, lights etc., so I figured I couldn't go too wrong. I just had to convince Trevor.

So far no problems. Trevor, doesn't care one way or the other as long as he isn't responsible for him. He has too much going on in his life.

I don't mind adding Truffle. He adds interest to our days. He is a good eater and a fun addition.

Any ideas on his exact species? I think he is a three-toed Floridian box turtle.

What an adorable turtle! I can't offer much advice, but congratulations and thanks for rescuing him.

It would help to be able to see his shell for ID purposes..

What are you feeding him?

Mygala, I've been feeding him various veggies, egg, meat, and pizza. I will try and get a better pic later and post it.

Here is a better picture of Truffle. Any ideas on his type? I think he is a 3-toed Floridian Box turtle.

His red coloring is pretty, or should I say handsome?

There is the Florida box turtle, and then there is the three-toed box turtle. They are different subspecies, and their ranges don't intersect anywhere... but he does look like a three-toe to me. Which means he's not native to Florida.
