If anyone knows of a tortoise rescue in southern NY please let me know.

Thanks!

Try these:

http://www.reptilecare.com/ctiguana.htm

I don't know if any of them have tortoises right now but you could always send an e-mail to see if they know of any needing homes . The last one is an iguana rescue BUT I know they do get in tortoises from time to time.

You should check with local rescues in your area, as well as figure out what native species are in your area before you assume that it needs a home.

Well, I'm in NY near the Canadian Border, and the tortoise is from Africa. It will certainly not survive the winter.

I would call the local shelters/vet offices to make sure that no one lost the tortoise--they do escape sometimes. I actually remember seeing posts on craigslist (not recently) about lost tortoises.

Well I've checked my local shelters, and I've checked on petfinder, I still cant find one within 1hr and 30 minutes from my house.

Did you click the links I gave you? Like I said earlier, I would e-mail them.

Yeah I had checked with them, the only one I had luck with was in Long Island, which is about a 3 hour drive for me. I asked them if they had anything closer to my area. Thank you for the links, they were helpful.
