Easter Bunnies make trouble in Banff.

Seen the most horrifying story on the news, I have heard it before but never to this extent before. People (inconsiderate people) buy their kids bunnies for Easter and then don't want to follow through with caring for the poor creature, they abandon them.
Its becoming a real problem in Banff Canada, being such a naturalist society they don't want to exterminate them, they cannot be re-located because technically they are not "wild". They are becoming pests and alot of people are developing a big hate for rabbits, through no fault of the animals. I think for the sake of the animals and society I think pet stores should refuse to sell bunnies 2 weeks before and one week after Easter. I really think that would deter the people who are not sincere and do it on a whim and then make the pet pay for their irresponsibility.

I agree, and this is awful. People should research the care of this animal, and is not an animal just to be handed off to small children, and abandoned later when everybody gets bored with them.

I might get a rabbit someday, but this is something I have been thinking about for a long time, and I when I do I will buy my rabbit everything it will need.

That happens here too, bunnies are sold for easter and then end up in the shelters. The shelters get packed with bunnies after easter!

It is Horrible!! I got my rabbit b/c I love rabbits!! How STUIPD is it that parents get their children a rabbit for easter without thinking on responcibility on their care and how much work they are!! They are SUPPOSED to be the adult, no a child!!

As cute as a Rabbit may appear and although Easter time would'nt be without fuzzy bunnies and fwuffy chicks.

Rabbits are by no means an ideal pet even for the most experienced of Pet owners. Rabbits are fuled on Carrot juice Octane most of the time , they are less than clean , greedy and everything has to be chewed at night and thumping early in the morning when your trying to sleep

In the past Rabbits were only kept for one reason , especialy in times of war and imposed rationing.

If you are buying a rabbit or rabbits for young family members you have to know what your doing beforehand and have all the neccessary to boot.

Unfortunately this old link with rabbits and easter eggs , Hares and Lapwing eggs still exists , so naive and unexperienced parents buy their nippers a bun for easter only for it to be turfed out when it becomes bigger and too much to handle.
