Angry Kahalu'u, Hawai'i: Puppy miller to get abused dogs back by order of judge

A judge has ordered that a local puppy miller's dogs be returned to him even after he pled guilty to 55 counts of animal cruelty. He is being given 21 days to sell or rehome all of the dogs. The judge ordered that he pay a $5,500 fine to the court, but no restitution to the Hawaiian Humane Society, leaving the Hawaiian Humane Society with a bill of over $250,000* (the cost of caring for 63** dogs for the last year.) How...fair...

Also, a number of the dogs went to stay in foster homes. Their foster families are upset at having to return the dogs after having them in their care for a year. They hope to be able to convince the breeder to either allow them to keep the dogs or buy them (at a reasonable price.)

* Some say $250,000+ while others state $260,000+
** Some sources say 55, while others say 63 or 64.

Here's a news article about it all: http://honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/p...601110345/1001

The attached photos are of the dogs as taken by the Hawaiian Humane Society the day they removed them from the breeder's property.

The upside is the dogs are only staying with him for 21 days. The downside is that that's 21 more days the animals may very well suffer. Plus, the man will not likely be looking for good homes when he himself refuses to provide the dogs with a good home. So, they may end up in bad homes again.

The man is also incapable of caring for his children adequately. The day the HHS removed the dogs CPS came and removed more than one of his children. They have since been returned as well.
