Jodi Oh man, I feel this way about an Amazon that has totally stolen my heart, her name is Peaches and she doesn't have much of a life. I'm just not at a point in my life where I feel like another bird is an option....but I can dream....and hey, maybe someday she will be mine (she's been available for a couple of years!!)

Mal, have you been back to visit Puppy?

Yes! They are so smart it's freaky - and the color of their eyes, the way they look at you - it's piercing... as if they are examining your brain. They are awesome birds.

Stealing my heart thing, omg...
It's happened to me. It's how I got Dante!
It's also how I got Daphne... from the same breeder in Florida. It was total love at first sight. I was down there visiting for a few weeks. The first place I always go is to the bird store/breeder place. I bring pictures to update them, I talk and play with the babies etc... it's like a day at Disney for me
I saw that gorgeous baby Citron Cockatoo the first day. She picked *me*. He let me hand feed her... I would leave there in tears. I did all my homework, weighed the decision carefully...
I ended up calling the airline, paying the fare and home to NJ she flew with me.
Of course... at the end of the day when all was said and done my heart was broken. I was just in way over my head with a Cockatoo ( RA flares, hospital stays, surgeries, days chained to my bed and a Cockatoo isn't a good match... they aren't a forgiving breed, as much as I love her, I just wasn't physically capable of giving her the all around attention she needed)
I learned my lesson the hard and painful way.

Ugh. Rambling again sorry...

Mallory - I totally understand how you feel when you say you wish you could have taken him home with you. He sounds like a total love-bug.

African Grey stole my heart

At a local Pet Supplies Plus store, there is this heart clutching African Grey. (I guess they've done DNA tests or something because his price says he's male also.) I don't know how old he is or what, but I've seen him two times and he is the sweetest darling bird I've ever met.

He'll watch me from afar, moving around the sides of the cage he's in as I go around it... Oh if I could have only took him home with me. Everytime I stopped to look at something, he'd make this noise he does, and I swear he's trying to make you think he's saying, "I want you to pet me again." ... "Pweeze?" And I can't help it! I just gotta keep going back to him. Then he does this quick little dance-get situated thing so I can pet him. I stick my fingers through the bars and start petting him, rubbing underneath his neck feathers and he practically layed down on the floor of the cage! (It was then that I decided I had to secretly name him Puppy.) He was loving it, and let me continue to pet around his eyes and under his wings... Then he tried to step on to my fingers but since he couldn't (not enough room) he decided he might as well nibble on them. He was so gentle and man..... I just wish I coulda taken him home.
