What treatments do they use to treat guineas for ringworm? How long does it take? I bought two guineas Aug 2 and ten days later Bob started missing more hair off his cheek. I took him back the following week for a follow up and noticed Maverick had the similar problem. The vet thought mites even though a skin scraping showed nothing. Recently two pigs who were also caged with them at the store were returned and they had ringworm. So now they're treating them for ringworm. They offered us two new pigs and I want to try to get them better before I even think about accepting a new pig. I've already cleaned and disinfected the cage really really well. I'll do a second scrub down of the cage just prior to bringing the pigs home.
Noramlly you use an antifungal for ringworm, treatment time varies. Sometimes up to 3 weeks.
IF you get another guinea pig make sure you quarantine it in another part of your house behind a closed door for 3-4 weeks. When handling the new pig use a certain shirt for that time and change before you go to your own herd. Also on that note make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before handling your herd.
Ringworm is contagious so watch yourselves also and anyone else that may have handled them.
