Emergency Sick Prairie Dog
Hey, guys I was looking for some help FAST. I woke up this morning thinking my PD, Roach, was sleeping in his burrow and when I went to let him out and play, I noticed that he was laying flat on the floor of his cage not moving. At first I thought he had passed, but my boyfriend and I picked him up and he still has some life in him... but we don't know what to do or what may have caused this. The only vet we know that takes PDs isnt open today.

any insight would help.

it sounds like he may have eaten something toxic

do you know if there's anything we can do until the vet opens tomorrow ?

I'd love an update on this, hope he is doing better. I would have recommended getting some electrolytes into his system. get an eyedropper or saringe (no needle of course) and give him some pedialite and keep him really warm. start doing some research on odentoma. I had a female that got really sick. they can live with odentoma, not the easiest problem for us parents to deal with though. If he does have it do a seach on here, feel free to pm me with questions I would be happy to talk to you about how we delt with it.

still very curious how this turned out. I actually have a similar situation right now. My boy was lying on his tummy kind of in an unusual spot by his normal bed, wasn't moving much. Later that day he threw up, I started to get really worried, My boy is very old though it just might be his time. It's been two days of cuddles and snuggle safe warmness and he is still hanging in there. I just picked up some critical care today and got him to eat a little. sure hope he didn't come down with odentoma, I don't know if I can take that again.

I would've said Electrolytes too; this happened to mine once and it helped him instantly. PLease keep us updated! I hope he is ok!
