FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 06, 2012

Diamond Pet Foods is voluntarily recalling Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice. This is being done as a precautionary measure, as the product has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. No illnesses have been reported and no other Diamond manufactured products are affected.
Details can be found in the link, or on the Diamond Pet Food Website

I originally received the info from this site

Diamond once again. I have feed Pro Plan chicken and rice kibble for over 15 years and it was never recalled once, not even as a precaution in all that time.

Your dogs are lucky. :)

Purina products have ongoing problems, though no recalls, that they do not address.

Purina sells hundreds of products, many they don't manufacture. They are quick to pull problems ones. It is very rare for there to be a confirmed problem with the high volume ones they produce themselves.

Diamond makes many fewer products including some very highly rated ones. Yet they have had many recalls and problems.

ProPlan is manufactured by Purina. As are many other pet foods. You have to look at the labels closely but the little Purina checker-box is there.

I don't feed either brand. However I think the more people are aware, the better chance their pets have, if they are one of the unlucky ones being fed a product with a problem, whether it is an official recall or not.

If you (as in general) read these links, feed this food, and then your pet gets sick, you will more likely to take action quickly, since you will know there is a possibility your pet has eaten tainted food.

I search the brands I feed daily, just in case. It only takes a minute or two. :)

Thanks for the heads up about this! I will need to look into this further!
