1st pair of Degus: Male or female?

Hi,

I'm just about to get our 1st pair of Degus. I should have my cage all setup for start of next week and be able to pick up my Degus some times next week. I will have the option to select which on I take.

Should I go with 2 females or 2 males?

I've read a lot about Degus already, but it's not that clear as to which is better. It seems to be better, easier cohabitation, with female, but some also had better experience with males than females.

thanks,

I don't think it matters as long as they are 2 males or 2 females. (I adopted 4 females from the local animal shelter and they made a mistake sexing them – they were 3 females and 1 male – so now I have 16). Learn how to sex them yourself or take them to a vet to make sure you have two of the same.

I have both males and females. My males fight each other more often and more viciously than my females do, but it seems that my males' cage is a bit cleaner than my females' cages.
Females are a bit less likely to fight but both sexes are equally good pets :).
Thanks for you replies,

I'm still waiting for my cage, but went to select the Degus yesterday.
I selected 2 nice and joyfull females.
Will go pick them up when the cage is ready.
