10 days ago, we found 2 5-6week old (give or take they were around 10-12lbs each) german shepherd puppies dumped on the side of our country road. I don't know how long they were there on the side of the road in the ditch's. I fed them canned dog food the first night and they perked right up and had a bowl movement very fast. I seen corn in the remains, so I assume they might of been on the edge of the field for a day or so.
Up until last night, they ate 3-4 good meals a day of small bred puppy food made by purina softened with warm water and 1/2- can of canned dog food, they also have always had full access to water 24/7. They ate without hassles everytime. They played, eat, did everything a dog could do without any complaints. They played with my kids like healthy puppies 24/7. I am totally baffled by this.
As of last night, they are refusing to eat anything, no dry food or canned ( I tried multiply brands). I tried human food also, they are also only drinking a very small amount of water. They are extremely gaunt tonight, very lethargic and have Diarrhea.
Taking them to the vet is out of the question, I can't afford this being a single provider with 3 kids. So I have to try and help them myself and with any suggestions and thoughts from anyone, I would hate to lose them.
I did have access to a IV bag with a hook up. We gave them IV under the skin tonight to help keep them hydrated because they have liquid bowls as we speak. There has to be a common cause because they are both affected.
The only cause I can think of is, every time I took them out for a BM after meal times. They would constantly try to eat there own feces. I stopped them every time, but they would get the odd mouthful here and there. I don't know if that could be causing this much damage because prior to last night they were perfect.
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas would be much welcomed.
Thanks,
Matt
