As you all know my Betta Hinoko passed recently. now her 5 gal hex stands empty and I really want to fill it. I was thinking maybe 2-3 ADF its a silent filter so it wont bother them. I was just wondering if they tank is appropriate since there isnt much floor area. I do have all the supplies needed.

How tall is it? The main issue with tank shape for froggies is that it can't be too high, or else they will have trouble getting to the top for air.

its less than 16 inches which is the height problem with frogs and has no vibration or current

It's far from ideal. You could probably pull it off but considering how cheap 5-gallon tanks are I would personally get one in a better shape. There's just not a lot of space in a hex since they don't make use of vertical space much.

If you do get ADFs (and I'd get 2, not 3), decorate with taller rocks and plants so they can rest towards the top.

Its not cheap here to just get a 5 gal I'd have to rebuy everything

Check craigslist and Freecycle if you want another 5-gallon or 10-gallon, you can get them for free or cheap :). I got a 50-gallon for free, in fact!

I also forgot, I wanted to suggest some alternatives to the frogs.

Besides the betta, some other ideas would be...

-A group of cherry shrimp. These guys are really neat and easy to care for. They do great in smaller tanks.

-A single pygmy gourami species (not the usual dwarf guys you see in stores but the tinier ones)

-A few amano shrimp (I kept 3 in a 5-gallon with live plants)

-A small group of white cloud minnows, cherry barbs, harlequin rasboras, or celestial danios with live plants. Those are all species I feel can be maintained in a smaller tank, provided there are hiding spots and water quality is good (both those requirements are basically covered by heavy planting).

I'll see. I'm more into hands on pets right now I just love ADF's so if it was possible I was going to.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I'd say ADFs are hands on, you can't handle them or anything.

The shrimp will probably be more social, actually . My shrimp climb onto my hands.

Where are you located? If you still want the frogs, definitely check craigslist for cheap/free tanks :).
