Ok so my roommate's girlfriend just got a toy poodle puppy like 2 months ago, she was 10 weeks when she got her on aug. 23.

she also takes care of her sisters friends new puppy (same place same time) mini-dashound

WELL she didn't look up info and wants a dog that is 5 lbs or less. I looked up toypoodles and they are 6-9 lbs for a normal weight.

She thinks if she doesn't give her puppy much food, than she will stay under the 5lbs that she wants and have a happy healthy puppy.

I don't see how this is good, rationing a babies food? wants to stunt its growth to be 5/6 of what it should be? 1/6 of your weight is a lot to be under.

I argued about this to her a bit, and she took her dog to the vet, (but really i think she went to petsmart?? for a shot) and they told her, Yep, if you don't feed as much they will be smaller and be healthy.

Now she is starving her dog, i defluffed her yesterday and she is like this

<]==} ok not the best pic, but she sinks in after the shoulders, you can feel her ribs, practically see them (she is very fluffy) and weighs next to nothing. she still runs and plays and things so it's hard to see that i'm sure shes suffering, they always only think about food

She looked so hungry tonight and 3 of us ganged up on her and she said "NO! don't feed her, they got into a pack of soybeans and ate the whole thing, they are pooping out beans they don't need food. they ate too many beans"

I said, your dog is starving, feed it. and she got mad at us and said they are my dogs, my boyfriend said they are always hungry all they think about is food and they pee everywhere because you don't clean the poo off their mat.

she just gets mad and goes into my roommates room. SHE DOENS'T LIVE HERE. I don't know what else to do, i sneak the poor dogs food when i can. but they aren't TOO skinny to report her, and she's not crazy enough to look like a bad owner if i did. It's starting to make me really angry, and honestly, i don't want the dogs here if they are going to be all over everyone that moves hoping they have food and i can't give it to them.

she gets so mad at them if they do anything. She won't watch them they will go into the kitchen and she finds them she yells and screams and stomps after them and tells them they can't go in the kitchen, then not 2 mins after that she tells them to go into the kitchen and oos and awws if they do.

They will eat something off the floor and she will yell and stomp at them, or they will chew something she notices 20 mins later and yells at them and shoves it in their face then picks them up and kisses them

I know this is more of a rant than anything but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i feel so helpless, i can't do anything for the poor dogs. she gives more food to the dashuound because she doesn't care how big she gets, but the poodle is so tiny, but fluffy.

Poor puppy, its sad that theres really not much you can do unless the puppy gets sick. poor little thing, i would just keep sneeking it food, or maybe you could tell this friend that you are going to a fun new dog park, and invite her along, go in your car.. then drive her to a vet instead and have her ask the vet about all this. ... altho.. that might be sorta kidnapping.. but hey.. :p

I hate when people believe stupid thing and when you tell them the truth, they think your over reacting. My boyfriends boss has 2 new puppies, there supposed to be purebred **** dogs, that he supposedly paid a bunch of money for, but he feeds them scraps, and keep them out in a pen away from the house.. because there not pets, there hunting dogs.. bleh.. Of course besides the fact that there kept in a pen, there not technically neglected in any.. they have food water and shelter.. but i just dont see why someone would pay so much money for a pup, then leave it outside.. -ok end mini rant- lol

Oh, that would never work, i assume you were probably joking, but she doesn't allow the dogs outside or to touch grass, and got mad when i let the dog i was pet sitting out and then back in to play with her and she said he was dirty and touched grass and things so the poor pup hasn't ever touched grass.

She isn't neglected in anyway she is over pampered but in a sick skewed way. She gets a bath once a week, so she always smells like shampoo, she changes the tshirts and sweaters on the doshound and they have lots of toys and goes everywhere in a purse dog carrior
:( That's just sick. She is not treating them like dogs at all, she is acting like they are her accessories. I don't care what kind of dog it is, a dog is a dog! And dogs need to eat and play and be dogs! Ugh, I could go on, but I'm going to stop myself.

I don't know what you can do, just keep sneaking her food...
Poor dogs. Dogs should be allowed to go on grass and to play and get mucky and all that! It's all part of being a dog!!
Maybe the vet thought she was talking about keeping it skinny. For certain breeds you have to watch their weight (ie. my piggy dachshunds), but puppies should get at least a cup a day (that's what my mini dachshunds eat). That's what the breeder told me to do. You should have her contact a breeder and they'll set her straight. The bones and such won't form properly without food :(
sounds like a sad pathetic paris wanna be...sorry but it does, Paris also used to say she kept "tinkerbell" to a strict diet to insure she didn't outgrow her clothes or get to heavy to carry, and if she was going to walk on the ground outside she must wear shoes...its all so sad

I do hope she wakes up and sees what shes doing is wrong, its just so sad to me...

my puppies (goldens) are pigs lol, they eat so much, but they burn it all off trust me, they play ball every day, go for super long walks, chase each other...I could not imagine never letting my dogs be dogs
i think the breeder is a little shady, or more than a little

They didn't even see the puppies mom and dad, the breeder said they are busy with the other puppies. 1, they can go with out for the 2 mins to see the dogs, and 2 the dad doesn't stay with pups anyway. i told her that one of the parents could be a miniature and not a toy for all she knows

she was saying that they have like 40+ dogs there.. it sounds like a mill to me but what can i do?

- i saw a picture of the dog on facebook and her owners comment was "shes my daughter so she isn't a dog."
What a stupid woman!! Is there any way you can tell her that unless she starts being a responsible dog owner you don't want HER dogs in YOUR home? I can only imagine how annoying someone like that must be. What difference does a couple of lbs make anyway? NO EXCUSE FOR CRUELTY!!! Show her this thread maybe? Would googling something about malnourishment in puppies and the damage it could do (perhaps with a shocking picture as well) knock any sense into her? What does your housemate (her boyfriend) think? Could you get him to be a bit more helpful? There's lots of other things I want to type but as you aren't allowed to swear I'll keep quiet.
i agree you should totally keep giving that pup some food,if she does read this i hope she gets the impression that she's a woman with no consideration for the well being of others and all she care about is looking good and having the perfect accessorie to be just like that ***** Paris-A DOG SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE A DOG-if you dont want to take care of its needs, get a stuffed toy.

I know what your saying, i've tried, pointlessly

She thinks she is an amazing owner, and nothing i say changes that.

EVERYONE gangs up on her, we had 5 telling her at one point and she still says she is doing right and finally said It's my doggie, i'm doing everything right and went in her boyfriends room.

The problem with a shocking pic is her dog looks fine, its fluffy you can't see that its skinny and the vet said that it is perfect.

Her boyfriend agrees with us but frankly he is scared _____less of her. She is abusive to him as well, yelling at him, kicking him, and stands on him if she doesn't get her way. its ridiculous, no one knows why he puts up with it.

Hes meek about it, kind of says things to her but doesn't want to upset her.

to us he says i know but its her dog what can i do?

Maybe you could see if there's a toy poodle breeder, that shows, who could set her straight. Most large cities have dog clubs. It sounds like there isn't much you can do though. Idiots will be idiots. Hopefully the vet will come to his/her senses and see that the dog is too thin. :(
I am sorry in advance....PUNCH HER IN THE FACE...the is no flippin reason to starve a dog because you want it to be little...I have never in my life ever ever deprived my animals food that is why I have a dog that eats tomatos cats that like raisins....sorry the whole punch her in the face thing is kinda of harsh but you tried to talk sense into her did not work now you have to beat it in apparently.
oh i want to, seriously.

I want to tell her If you don't feed your dogs enough i don't want them here, but then i can't sneak food and it will bring my whole house into a fight. her boyfriend my boyfriend my other roommate and probably some of our friends that almost live here as well
i think you should try and give your friend some info. That is not healthy and is almost dog cruelty. She doesn't want to get into trouble or make her dog sick to the point of death. Send her emails on pet nutrition and health maybe.
maybe you could try getting her to take her dog to the vet again. why did she get a dog if she's not going to treat it like one. i mean it can't have much of a life if it can't even go outside! maybe you should show her this site so she can see all the advice people have put on here and maybe that would knock some sense into her. i don't see why she didn't just do some research before she got a dog and then she would at least have one that was the right weight and wouldn't be starving it, its good that you are trying to give it some food though. i know this probably didn't help but i had to rant! :)
