beach sand dust baths?

I have always used chinchilla dust for our degus, but was just wondering if beach sand would be ok for them, from a clean beach? I have heard its a bit courser and maybe less absorbent... but maybe I could use it from time to time, alternating with the chinchilla sand... or mixed with it?

just wondering if anyone had any experience using beach sand or knew any more about it?

Something I know people like to do (and what I want to do) is mix sand and dirt, and let goos dig through it for fun.
I imagine letting them roll around in just sand is perfectly fine, but I would still let them bathe in the finer pumice dust in addition to that. :)
