I bought a bag of hamster food and after 2 weeks started noticing black bugs in the food. The bugs must have been biting my hamster because all of a sudden he was becoming lethargic. He wasn't even walking normally. He would crawl on his stomach.

After I threw that food out and bought a different brand, he became better and normal looking again.

I don't know what type of black bugs those were. They looked like really tiny beetles. They had 3 legs on each side and a very long nose that forked at the end. Very creeeepy looking!

After buying the second bag of food, 2 weeks later I noticed them again.

Does anyone have any idea how this could have happened?

Maybe the bugs are living somewhere in your home. Try vacuuming or checking the floor for any cracks that they may hide in. It also depends if your hamster lives in an enclosed cage (no metal bars) because it could also be in the bedding.
