First girl found a cat, couldn't keep it at a time. Second girl took a cat in until first one figures a way to keep the cat ("for a little while"). First girl does some attempts for first 2 weeks, and then nothing. Three months later she comes back and says she is taking the cat on Monday. And it is HER cat, she found it. Doesn't give her parent numbers to call them beforehand.
Whose cat is it at this point?...
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Was a time agreed on as to how long it would stay? Did she pay for the food? Or anything ? Has the second girl brought it to the vet? If the second girl has done everything and no time was agreed id think its the second girls.

Originally it was for a week or two, we asked consistently when is she taking it back. In mid August I told her to make it sooner rather then later because we would get attached to the cat. She said sometimes in September for sure. This was the last time any time frame was given. In October we figured she is not taking it back, so took the cat to a vet and so on. In a week we have a neuter appointment scheduled. Yesterday she reappeared and said she is picking up the cat on Monday (today). And will pay back expenses eventually (which in this particular case means never).

But it is not about the expenses, it is like baby to us now ...

We didn't plan to get a cat, my son is slightly allergic to them, but we took it in because otherwise i don't know where would it end up, it was so skinny and it was during the July heatwave...

I asked around about a "legal" side of this, and it seems that cats in MA are not a property as dogs are, so we should be OK...

Since you brought it to the vet and can show ownership and the other girl has no way to prove ownership.
