Coronavirus?

A couple of months ago, my dear Cubby (a ferret of course) got ill. I found black stool, not even slightly solid, all over her and her sister's cage and then I saw her come stumbling out having lost so much weight over what could have barely been two days (my mother had not even seen her losing it though we see them each day. She was still trying to be herself but could hardly stand and after trying to rehydrate her for an hour I had a friend drive me to the vet. Everything was basically wrong with her, her weight and hydration, her blood cell counts, it seems something maybe with her liver too? A lot of this is actually a blur because I was so panicked and the price was just rising every second (it was the middle of the night so we were at an emergency clinic) It turns out she had a bacterial infection, corona virus. She by some miracle has fully recovered and is plump and happy again.

Has anyone else experienced this though?

If it's a virus, it's not a bacteria... but anyway, I've never experienced it personally, but they're definitely transmitted from one infected animal to another. You'll want to thoroughly clean everything she's had contact with. Did they happen to say which corona virus? There are several different ones, depending on what species it primarily affects, dogs, cats, humans, rats, mice, even cows have their own variety. Glad she's doing okay though. Fast treatment is great! :)

Really? Wow, he told me it was a bacterial infection called Coronavirus. He did not say which type, or perhaps I did not hear him...I was not in a good state at the time. I kept her in a clean kennel temporarily and removed her sister to another kennel where I could watch both and then we cleaned their other cage insanely. Now we are also very careful about the cleaner types we use.
That is really interesting about the different species types too...I shall have to study up. Thank you for the information.

Studying is good! Even vets and techs are humans - I know I've been told information that I thought was iffy. Sometimes viruses (including corona) will cause secondary bacterial infections and an animal will need treatments for both the underlying virus and any bacterial infections that pop up as a result, so I can see in a hectic situation information like that getting merged. Anyhow, I'm glad the situation is improving!
