Is it true that the Chow-Chow has a natural fear of swimming because he can actually drawn due to the breed’s heavy thick coat? Anyone got some input on this one?

My Chow cross “Yukon” would refuse to go swimming maybe this why.

Some dogs are simply not water dogs.
chows can tire easily in water but they can learn to swim, however most don't like to.

I googled chow chow swimming and a whole bunch of youtube videos of chows came up. By the looks of it, none were drowning. Also a chow page came up. Apparently some chows are in love with water.

So I guess its just a myth...an interesting one at that!

I don't really thinks its true. It depends on the dog if they are energetic enough to swim in the water

They can drown as any dog can, so you would have to be very carefull, but i wouldn't force your dog to swim if they don't like it.

Just like people, some love the water and others are content to just drink it.
