degu screaming at eachother

Why are you breeding them? I have to admit that I'm a little concerned, especially after reading a different post of yours where you mention the female being "young" .

Anyway, it just sounds like the introduction was too rushed. A few days isn't enough time. They should only be introduced in neutral territory right now, not in a cage. I would give them some time to chill out and then try again tomorrow. Don't stick them in the same cage until they've been getting along for at least a week.

yea i wasn't gonna put them permanently in the same cage yet. i know its too soon.
since ive gotten the new degu (female) ive had their cages next to each other, so they kinda know each other. then i would take one out and my roommate would take the other so they could sniff each other. and now im putting them in one cage for a while so hey can play and stuff. maybe i'll only do that every other day so they can rest from each other?

I wouldn't be putting them together in one cage at all right now. It's very easy for a fight to break out in a confined space. Degus have excellent memories so just one fight can ruin the whole introduction process. Let them meet in a degu-proofed room, pen, bath tub, etc.

And sorry if you already know this but you'll need another male and another female. Degus need companions but you can't have a male and a female together permanently (that will result in back to back litters and premature death).

hmmm maybe i'll put them in the bathroom, there's no where they can go under anything, its a perfect place.
right now i live in a small dorm room so i cant afford to get more animals right now. but in a few months i will get a house so i will probably get more.

I can totally relate to that situation but then why are you breeding them? You're aware that the female will keep having litters, right?

oh im not breeding them. thats not my plan anymore. as soon as i see them start to do stuff like that i seperate them. it was just that one time i didnt get there in time. i dont think she is prego tho thank goodness

If they've mated, even once, she could get pregnant. Just a few seconds is all it takes, she might even be pregnant now (there's no way to tell until they're far along). You can't rely on separating them in time.

If you're not prepared for a litter (which is a responsible thing to admit and I'm glad you don't want to breed them) now, maybe consider having the male neutered? It can be pricey but it's a lot cheaper than caring for a litter of babies, vet bills for pregnancy complications, etc. Either that or keep them separate for now, they'll still get some interaction by having the cages next to each other. Then in the future, you could get each a same-sex companion .

how much would it cost for the male to get neutered?
if i get him neutered then i wont have to worry about them being in the same cage

It depends on your area, veterinary costs vary pretty dramatically. Your best bet is to call up your vet (hopefully one who's experienced with small animals) and ask for a quote .

If you can't afford to get more animals don't let them play together at all.

I get dozens of litters from virtually every species imaginable in my rescue because people "let them play" but were "watching to make sure they didn't mate". If you watch your animals to make sure they're not making babies, that just makes you a voyeur.
