My mom said she was going to get rid of my babies if I didn't get them out of the house. I live in a dorm two hours away. I brought them her for a few weeks thinking we'd make it through until the semester, because next semester I am getting an animal friendly apartment.
I got caught, and my rats and I were escorted out. They are in my car now and it is freezing outside! I am going to sleep in the car tonight so I can keep it heated and keep my babies warm but I need to find another place for them to leave.
Please help us! Idk what to do! I will part with my babies for their own well being but I am not taking them to a pet store where they will be sold as food!
Does anyone know of any rat rescues near Murray Kentucky?
I have to get my babies into a safe warm home as soon as possible, please help us!!!

If you absolutely have no friends or family that you can trust to take care of these little guys, at the very least you cannot let them freeze in a car. Can you take them to a local shelter if you have no other options?

I don't know, the shelter here doesn't take in rats. I slept in the car last night with the heat on but it's finals week and I can't keeo doing this. I'll try goosemoose. How low off a temperature is ok for rats? I don't plan to leave them out there without me.

Rats are subterranean and don't have a good temperature regulation system. 65-80 is about their safe range. Anything outside of that and you'll need to take extra measures. I would beg for help with your classmates. Some you feel comfortable with who live in apartments to keep them until you set up your apartment or can arrange a home for them. Maybe that you'll pay them 10-20 bucks or something a week for their trouble and promise to clean the cage yourself. Anything to get them a safe reprieve while you scramble for alternate options.

I was just thinking the same thing. How are the little ones doing? Is your mother actually willing to let them die in the cold rather than have them in the house??

I am also wondering how the babies and their owner are doing. Google rescues and breeders in your area. Often times good breeders are willing to take in rescues.
