Ferret Parent

Just this past week I became a pet parent of two wonderful little ferrets. I re-homed them from my friend who was moving and wasn't allowed to take them. She asked me if I wanted to take them in and I did some research, did some ferret proofing, got some extra supplies, and picked up them. I knew these ferrets some before because I had played with them at my friends house prior to this news and loved them. I never imagined I would have them in my care so the news caught me by surprise (good surprise, but bittersweet because I felt bad for my friend not being able to have her pets with her in her new place - she had to re-home a cat with my other friends too).

Glad I finally remembered there was a ferret forum here and decided to check! I've been scouring forums for information trying to provide the best care I can give for my little ones. I decided it best to keep their original names and I liked their names anyway. The small, all white (but not albino), female one is named Francis. The big male with dark colourings with black feet is named Fargo (absolutely love his name). Both are very sweet and well behaved. I was lucky to get such a great pair of ferrets! They are both just under 2 years old, Fargo is one month younger than Francis. Francis is deaf, btw.

Not sure if this photo album will work properly since its on my Facebook but here goes anyway:

(some photos of them, ferrets are so difficult to photograph lol)

Anyway.. I've become very attached to these two in the short amount of time they've been here. :) Hopefully I'll do more here on the forum than just lurk mostly again too, lol.

Whoops, too late to edit it now. Anyway, I've added photos of my ferrets in my gallery here. They are hard to photograph! XD Catch a photo of them sleeping usually. When they are awake and see me with the camera they usually just run up to me for a hug.
I LOVE ferrets, I was actually just playing with a baby one through the bar at the store.

They have such personality and I have been in love with them since a pet store I went to let me play with them in the store.

I hope to get some in the future, but right now my mother says they stink, but I think you can get over the smell if you really love them:)

Read up on as much stuff as you can about them in the mean time. :) Their actual smell isn't as bad as their reputation. You can really only smell it up close and its a very light skunky kind of odor that doesn't smell bad at all really (I kinda like it to be honest). I guess it is a love it or hate it thing. Just keep their bedding clean (I'm using a fleece blanket). Like any animal poop of course stinks so keep their litter box cleaned and it isn't bad. I keep mine right in my bedroom and it hasn't bothered me.
