I just rescued a degu from a homeowner's yard yesterday and so far have not found the owner (they don't know if it belongs to any of their neighbors)....I have not been able to find anyone in the Reno area who has degus and I know this one needs to be with others. None of the pet stores I've called carry them, so can't find a degu owner that could take it using that resource.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. The only cage I have that would be suitable has our pet rats in it (large ferret cage). It's in a small cat carrier at the moment, and eating rodent blocks, and I have larger carriers I could put it in temporarily. I know what food is appropriate, but know it's not in the little guy's best interest to stay here very long.

I don't really want to take it to the local humane society or spca.

Help please!

Thanks,
Jenna

Try contacting local rescues, there's probably a small animal one somewhere in the area (try rabbit/guinea pig rescues). Maybe look on Petfinder to find rescues?

Can you maybe get the SPCA to lend you a cage?
