Hi. I just joined because I noticed this morning that my dog was limping and it's causing me some concern. She's a one year old doberman/dalmatian mix (she's a rescue), and a little bit overweight. For some reason, she seems to be finding some difficulty with her right rear paw, and she lifts it off the ground some times when she walks, as if it were hurting her. She's not whining or crying though, and some times, when she runs, she seems to be doing fine. I checked her paw and I cannot find any puncture or inflammation anywhere, which leads me to think that maybe her sister bit her too hard during one of her rough play sessions causing the limp, or that she may have hit her hard running somewhere around the house (we don't have a backyard, and she didn't go out because of her limp). So, I wonder if you think that I should be concerned or just wait a couple of days to see if it resolves itself. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be an insect bite too, check it out thoroughly.

I have, several times already. I myself am bitten from head to toe with mosquito bites, but I have failed to spot something like that anywhere in her paw, even though I've tried to look thoroughly. She's also quite brown colored, so I guess that makes it harder to spot something like a mosquito bite. There are no other kinds of insects in my home though, so I wouldn't worry about something more dangerous than that.

I have been watchful of her all day long and it doesn't seem to be getting worse, but it's also not much better either. She runs, which may be compromising her ability to heal in case it's a bruise... I just hope it does get better before tomorrow because else I'll have to take her to the vet, and as it is, I don't have the money to do it.

Did so today. They xrayed the upper part of her limb, her torso and her lower abdomen (it's a policy of theirs upon first arrival), also a blood test and everything came back normal, so the vet said it was probably a bruise from rough play, even though it's not swollen anywhere, Long story short, she's on painkillers and antiinflamatory meds and sleeping much better now.

There can be many reasons, may some insect had bit her, you should check again carefully, may be it can be a small bit of mosquito also. You can also take her for check up they will help you out clearly and will guide you.
