Aww, loved the video of Hector playing, he is having fun! He is your typical ratty for sure...loves going under the blanket folds. Rats just love tunneling under blankets. They love the dark and the blanket "caves" make them feel safe. :approve:

Here is another tidbit of info you may not know: According to my research and lots of book reading on rats and their behavior, it is good for rats to have it as dark as possible at night when the rest of the household goes to bed. I forgot the reason why (can anyone on the forum remind me?) but rats like it very dark at night. They need the hours of darkness every night. I wish I could remember why? My vet explained it to me once too and I forgot! But I used to make sure that the living room area where my boys' rattty condo was, was always nice and dark with no outside street lights coming in the drapes and stuff like that. Interesting!

So in an earlier post I mentioned Hector get like hiccups sometimes when I pick him up. It's only when I pick him up from his cage.. I never see him get them when he is running around on the bed. Well I caught in on video.. There is no rasp or anything.. just like air moving in ond out.. take a look and tell me what you think...

thanks

Its a wonderful example of normal hiccups :) if there was sounds it would be possible that a URI was coming, but if they are silent they are just hiccups. :D

Interesting that it is only when you pick him up out of his ratty condo. Maybe he gets excited (in a good way..the way rats get very happy and excited when they come out of their house to play) when you pick him up and it causes temporary hiccups? Lilspaz, could that be a possibility? I would not think it would be caused by stress about being picked up only because Hector seems so comfortable and happy with Jimmie and Tonya. Anyone have an opinion?

He doesn't look like a stressed ratty but an excited happy ratty in everything I have seen. Who knows why hiccups even start for us :D

Yep, those are normal hiccups! Stanley used to get hiccups quite a bit when he was younger and it was dinnertime. He got so darned excited about his food that he just couldn't help it!

Hiccups are a mystery even in humans, but harmless. I would figure it's the same for rats. I have quite a few babies right now and have never seen one with hiccups! Interesting.

Ok.. this is the third or fourth time I have tried to post these pictures cause I keep hitting enter and the page reloads losing all what I have done.. so here we go again!!!

Here are some pictures of Hector the Rat.. Just wanted to share and bring a smile to someone face..

Also wanted to show some pictures to Animallover so he can show his mom how fun, loving and caring rats can be... enjoy!!!

Sensitive content, not recommended for those under 18 Show Content

So there ya go.. This is only one of so many examples of fun loving little furry rats.. This little guy loves us as much as we love him. Today I was lying on the bed and he was litterally runing all over me. Sometime he would stop to groom me by licking my forehead, ears, chin, hands and even feet.. finally he wore himself out and crawled into the leg of my jeans and passed out!! It was so cute.. anyway... I hope animallover can be a good home for some rats.. if mom and dad agree. I would hate to see you get a rat.. then your parents say no get rid of it! So make sure thay are ready to have him his entire rat life. I saw a saying in lilspaz's signature.. it said.. To the world you are only one person, to your rat you are the World.. think about that and good luck!!!

Awww, beautiful pictures Jimmie! Hector is just a little doll! His big round ears are so adorable! What a sweetheart he is! He sure is attached to you and Tonya already, it is so easy to see in the photos. Snuggled up safe inside Tonya's shirt and stretched out on her lap and with Daddy. He loves you both so much! The bonding is solid there, for sure! Great words you posted to Animallover too. You are right. It would be so unfair to get a rat/rats and then get told to get rid of them. So unfair to the rats. Well said. Thanks for sharing those photos and I am sure you can't wait to get Hector some playmates to keep him company. He will LOVE it. Rats love having buddies to snuggle, groom and play with. I am sure you and Tonya will have a ball adding to the family too! :)

Heh heh! That is so cute! Hector LOVES his Daddy, this is for sure! Running around on their people and blankets has got to be one of a rat's most favorite pastimes! :D
